The other day I just said to my self “que aburrido se mira mi laptop”, translation: my laptop looks boring. I had a wallpaper of the upcoming movie “Kunfu Panda” and a bunch of icons.

So to spice things up I put a couple of stickers on the back. They where from Richard Stallman and Free Software Foundation lecture at KTH. They express my feelings toward two things: DRM and Vista.

But my laptop still felt boring.. so I decided to change the desktop look and feel. Looking on stuff like the OSX and Vista animated icon dock.. So I found this page that is basically a how to make your desktop look like OSX. I’m not that desperate and just installed the star dock object, looked for cool desktop wallpaper and removed hid desktop icons.

The in the page mentioned above I saw the widgets step. And was pondering on why the heck I will need a widget on my desktop (other than the cool factor). Then it suddenly hit me, I will be able to have many functionalities on my desktop. To my surprise that is what widgets are about. So like this I was introduced to the WOW (World of Widgets).

I installed yahoo widgets and found it cool enough to let it live in my desktop. The weather widget looked nice and was useful, but I needed something else, something useful that really made my life easier and looked nice. Enter the ToDo list. I really suck at managing my time, so I used the calendar extension for Mozilla Thunderbird called Lihgting. It’s nice but I had to open thunderbird and sometimes I will forget.

I looked for a nice, stable and useful ToDo list. After searching an looking at all options available, couldn’t find one I liked. Also the yahoo search for widget is not that good, I don’t know the criteria but is hard to find what you want.

Then I stumbled with a calendar widget, which had a ToDo list functionality. The name is “Day Planner Calendar”. The version that yahoo has its not working well so there is comment that shows the link to the updated version. You can read the functionalities, but its really simple to use and ad tasks. Also has the alarm functionality and what I found the key function is it syncs with Google calendars. So it’s pretty cool and useful.

So what is next is to start using Google calendars and submit to their Hegemony.
